The experience
Hungary is a personal Donegal Unseen adventure because it is Andrea's home country. This small-group journey combines Budapest with forests, mountains, lakes and places that make Hungary special to her. Led by Andrea Váradi, founder of Donegal Unseen and qualified Mountain Leader.
Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Hungary & Budapest
Arrive in Budapest and explore sights including the historic Buda Castle district. An introduction to Hungary, its atmosphere, history and culture.
Day 2
The Danube Bend & Hungarian Forest Adventure
Leave the city for forests, viewpoints and narrow valleys in the Danube Bend region. The route may include Rám-szakadék and/or the Spartacus Trail, depending on conditions and final route selection.
Day 3
Kékes: The Highest Point in Hungary
Hike in the Mátra Mountains, including the summit of Kékes at 1,014 metres, with time around the Sástó area.
Day 4
Underground Hungary & Lake Balaton
Travel towards Tapolca for its cave and underground lake experience, subject to availability, and spend time around Lake Balaton.
Day 5
Final Budapest Morning & Journey Home
Enjoy a final morning in Budapest before travelling to the airport and heading home.
