Adventure grading

A grade is a guide, not a guarantee. Distance, ascent, terrain, pace, darkness, exposure, weather and winter conditions all matter. Read the activity-specific details as well as the grade.

C

Accessible

Gentle routes, usually on paths, tracks or straightforward terrain. A welcoming starting point with regular pauses and a sociable pace.

C+

Accessible plus

A little longer, rougher or hillier than C. Expect uneven ground and a day that needs comfortable general fitness.

B

Moderate mountain day

Sustained walking on uneven mountain terrain. Good hill fitness, suitable footwear and confidence away from surfaced paths are expected.

B+

Demanding mountain day

Longer, steeper or rougher terrain at a purposeful pace. You should have good stamina and recent mountain-walking experience.

B++

Advanced

A demanding and potentially committing day. Previous relevant experience or Andrea's approval is required before payment.

Approval may be required before a place can be offered.

A

Very advanced

A strenuous outing with significant distance, ascent, rough ground, exposure or winter demands. Participation depends on suitable approved experience.

Approval may be required before a place can be offered.

A+

Expert / activity approval

The most committing adventures. Every participant is considered individually for the specific activity, regardless of previous approvals.

Approval may be required before a place can be offered.

Winter progression

Winter adds cold, wind, short daylight, difficult ground and sometimes snow or ice. Build experience progressively and follow the equipment and experience requirements on each activity.

Routes can change

Andrea may alter the route, pace, timing or activity when weather, access, ground conditions or group safety require it. The safest worthwhile day is always the priority.
